Did you know that when I first saw the flame test, what came to mind wasn't how pretty they were, but how they looked so much like Dying Will Flames?
...I think I am slowly becoming an otaku (i.e. someone who is obsessed with 2D stuff, typically manga and anime).
In Katekyo Hitman Reborn:
Red flame = Storm Flames, that which rages and never rests
Blue flame = Rain Flames, the requiem rain that washes everything away
Purple flame = Cloud Flames, the aloof cloud that has an independent standpoint (Hibari Kyouya ~~~!)
Indigo flame = Mist Flames, that which creates nothing from something and something from nothing (pineapples)
Green flame = Lightning Flames, that which acts like a conductor to direct harm towards the Family away
Yellow flame = Sun Flames, that which takes on anything that harms the Family head-on (I think)
Orange flame = Sky Flames, that which embraces and accepts all (Tsuna is so cuteeeee! I always poke his figurine!)
...however, in Flame Test:
Red flame = Lithium,
Blue flame = Arsenic
Purple flame = Potassium
Indigo flame = Lead, arsenic
Green flame = Copper (II)
Yellow flame = Sodium
Orange flame = Strontium, zinc
*Note that colours are subjective!

Yeah, something like that.
And when I was watching the flame test video in rambio, it was like watching scientists cultivate the Dying Will Flames! Haha, really cool.
Ok, so I don't exactly get what's happening during flame test, but I think it's something like that:
When heat is introduced, the electrons are excited, and jump out of their orbits (?). Because they jump several steps (???) they change colour (????????).
...my Chemistry is really fail.
Haha, but I think it's something like Physics, too, which means I should be able to get it. Oh well, I'll read it up sometime later. I am on a tight schedule to finish this soon so I can study for my Chinese CBA (10%) tomorrow.
...but I really don't wish to study...
